Beer ethics
A lawsuit between Pabst Blue Ribbon and MillerCoors is making news and will have significant effects for the existence of one of the oldest brewers in America. Millercoors brews Pabst blue ribbon for their company and MillerCoors recently increased their charge for this threefold. This increase would be unsustainable for Pabst and if it is not overturned it will likely mean Pabst will cease to exist. The organization will be dissolved and many will lose their jobs. You may say "Dan why do you care as someone who has been sober for three years?" Well that's true and I suppose it isn't a big deal to me personally but there were years where a two dollar pint of Pabst was incredibly important to me. If this lawsuit finds in favor of MillerCoors it will mean Pabst will have to break with MillerCoors and hope to find another brewery to produce their goods. Does MillerCoors bare any responsibility in this matter? I don't believe so I think Pabst should have been more aware of how vulnerable they were to being squeezed in this way. Pabst put themselves in a situation where they were unable to protect their own existence. I don't know where the lawsuit will end up contract law ins't my strong suit. If Pabst is dissolved and Blue Ruin on ninth avenue is forced to change their happy hour deal of a 2 dollar pint of Pabst it will be one of those things that I at some point will tell people much younger then me about and they'll look at me like a crazy person.
Daniel, This is an interesting issue for your blog this week but I do think that more highly detailed analysis could have been established in considering this issue in a more in-depth manner.
