Recognition
The most striking thing I found when learning about coaching is my need for recognition. I have always been someone who thrived off praise and while I usually try and let my work speak for itself I do hope for others to recognize it. Learning this about myself explained a lot and allowed me to look at how I can get the most out of myself as well as those I work with who operate on the same motivation. Although I initially was a bit embarrassed by the score I received on the recognition self assessment I realize now that it's simply one way people find motivation to pursue success. On Sunday morning I ran a marathon and while I was a little upset with my time I still immediately showed off my medal by sending a picture to some family and friends. Although this on the surface seems pretty conceited I believe that the overall outcomes make my need for recognition a net positive. In the future I think when working with staff who demonstrate this I will try and empower their desire to be recognized when there work merits it.
